For Gabe Newell, Windows 8 is a “catastrophe”, for Blizzard it’s “not awesome”; now John Carmack says “there’s nothing I’m looking forward to” in Windows 8. The id man said as much in his keynote at QuakeCon 2012, which also saw the announcement of an Unreal Engine 3 remake of Rise of the Triad, coming to Steam later this year.

QuakeCon’s other announcements were dominated by new id owners Bethesda, who finally launched Skyrim: Dawnguard for PC on Friday and revealed the star studded Dishonored voice cast a day later, which includes mouth-movements from Susan Sarandon and Lena Headey.

Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime revealed in an earnings call that Diablo 3 has sold 10 million copies, and said that Blizzard “want people to play and enjoy Diablo 3 for a long time”. In the same call, Activision admitted that Call of Duty DLC sales are slowing down, while World of Warcraft subscriptions have fallen 1.1 million to 9.1 million worldwide.
